Contrary to popular belief, the Yankees are only the fifth-most despised team in the majors, according to an Internet algorithm built by Nielsen Co. that analyzes how people feel about certain things.

The San Francisco Giants (4.5) and Oakland Athletics (4.2) were the most-liked teams on this scale, suggesting that laid-back Northern California fans are the most accepting.

Interesting approach to this story: popular belief is that the Yankees are unpopular but they aren't as unpopular as is popularly believed. I also like how this story is not about how well-liked the West Coast teams are but how less-hated-than-you-might-think the Yankees are.
And check out the hard hitting analysis from this New York-based newspaper: we like the Giants because we are all laid-back here in the Bay Area (read: meh, we just aren't that intense about our baseball like those East Coast passionistas.)
Couldn't have anything to do with the Giants having the most all time wins and most Hall of Famers in baseball. And that the Giants are just awesome.
And how the Dodgers are only the 10th most despised team I'll never know... I mean, beach balls have no place in baseball.
